Upgrading from Netscape 4.x (Netscape Communicator) to Netscape 7 (Netscape Navigator) is straightforward. Once you install your Netscape 7 software, you'll find that your bookmarks, mail accounts and other personal profile information for your primary profile will be automatically migrated. You can easily move your bookmarks, mail accounts, and other personal profile information for your additional profiles. After upgrading your software, you can register for the Netscape Network. To learn more about the Netscape Network go to http://about.netscape.com. Registering provides you with a single Screen Name and password that you can use with many Netscape Network services, including AOL(R) Instant Messenger TM and Netscape Mail.
Before Installing Netscape 7
It's a good idea to review the system requirements and ensure that your system meets the minimum recommended requirements. You can also view the installation instructions before getting started.
Importing & Creating Profiles
If you're upgrading from Netscape Communicator 4.5 or later, the profile that you last used to start your older version of Netscape is automatically copied to Netscape 7. Bookmarks and mail information, such as address books, mail folders, and settings, are copied with the profile. If you have more than one profile, the additional profile information must be manually converted for use with Netscape 7. Use the appropriate procedure for your platform as described below.
Note: You cannot copy or convert profiles from versions of Netscape Communicator earlier than 4.5. If you want to use such a profile, you'll have to recreate it.
Importing Profiles
Step 1
For Windows:
1. Exit Netscape 7 if the program is running.
2. Click Start from your desktop.
3. Point to Programs, then point to Netscape 7, and choose Profile Manager.
For Mac OS:
1. Exit Netscape 7 if the program is running.

Once you've established more than one profile, the Profile Manager opens every time you launch Netscape 7, just as in Netscape 4.5 and later.
Note: If you previously tried Netscape 6.x and then reverted back to Netscape 4.5 or later, your primary profile isn't automatically converted. You'll be prompted during installation to select a profile to convert. Any additional profiles are converted as described above.
