Full details of a plot by a British Muslim to murder people in terrorist outrages on both sides of the Atlantic were outlined in court for the first time.
Dhiren Barot planned a series of synchronised attacks on the UK.
These included blowing up limousines in underground car parks and setting off a radioactive "dirty bomb".
In the US he wanted to target financial institutions in Washington, New York and Newark in attacks "designed to kill as many innocent people as possible".
Barot pleaded guilty to conspiracy to murder last month at London's Woolwich Crown Court.
Edmund Lawson QC, for the Crown, opened the prosecution's case against Barot on Monday morning at the start of a two-day hearing that will culminate in the sentencing of the 34-year-old Hindu convert to Islam, who is from Kingsbury, north London.
British al Qaida terrorist Dhiren Barot was plotting "massive explosions" in the UK and United States to kill thousands of people, Woolwich Crown Court heard.
