A man is being held by police on suspicion of murdering two young children.
Officers attended an address in Bodelwyddan, North Wales, on Sunday and found the bodies of a five-year-old girl and three-year-old boy.
The children, brother and sister, were taken to nearby Glan Clwyd Hospital where they were pronounced dead. A 35-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder. A spokeswoman for North Wales Police said a post-mortem will take place on Monday.
The murders took place at a property in Coronation Close, a street of houses built for Army personnel around the time of the First World War.
North Wales Police confirmed that the man was arrested at the house but a force spokeswoman refused to comment on whether he was related to the dead children.
A spokeswoman said: "The 35-year-old man was arrested at the house on Coronation Close. I can't comment at this stage on any possible relationship between the man and the children."
Speaking at a press conference in St Asaph, Detective Superintendent John Chapman, who is leading the investigation, revealed that the children who had died were brother and sister.
He said: "Shortly before 11pm last night police were called to an address in Bodelwyddan. Once at the property, officers searched the house and discovered two children. The children, believed to be a five-year-old girl and a three-year-old boy, were given immediate medical attention.
"The ambulance service was alerted and the two children, who were brother and sister, were taken by ambulance to Glan Clwyd Hospital. They were both pronounced dead at the hospital less than an hour later."
Mr Chapman added: "The family of the two children are being comforted by North Wales Police family liaison officers and are extremely traumatised by the deaths. We are currently not in a position to release the details of the deceased."
