An investigation was under way on Monday after Bonfire Night revellers were left hanging upside down for more than an hour when a fairground ride jammed.

Eighteen carnival-goers aged between eight and 27 were suspended 20ft off the ground when the attraction at Strathclyde Country Park in Motherwell became stuck.

Fire crews used ladders to rescue 12 males and six females from the Move It ride.

A 27-year-old man was taken to hospital suffering from shock.

The ride became stuck at around 8.45pm.

Rescue teams managed to bring passengers upright before freeing them one by one by around 11.30pm.

Ronnie Nesbit, whose two daughters were trapped on the ride, told BBC Radio Scotland: "I'm a bit upset about the whole thing.

"What's more concerning is the lack of information we kept getting.

"There should have been more information."
